What We Do

Pain Management

Pain management has become a focus of veterinary health in the last 15 - 20 years. Even if the cause is being treated, pain is stressful on the body, and can exacerbate the condition and even interfere with treatment. Chronic pain is also thought to affect long-term health. Managing pain plays an important part in the healing process and maintaining quality of life for your pet, whether your pet suffers from a chronic painful condition or illness, or if the condition is temporary like an injury, or from a surgical procedure.

Your Bartow Animal Hospital veterinarian is keeping up with the many advances being made in this area of veterinary medicine. From ingestible medications to I.V. therapy, there are several treatment options to help make your pet comfortable and get them on the road to recovery, and to improve their quality of life. Your Bartow veterinarian will be happy to discuss them with you.

Always remember that you are ultimately the best advocate for your pet. Your pet can’t communicate to you in words if they are in pain. They may provide other clues, however; while some discomfort will be obvious, such as limping, wobbling or whimpering, you may have to trust your instincts regarding changes in your pet’s mood or behavior. Your normally affectionate pet may seem withdrawn, not want to be held or engage in activities they usually enjoy or interact with other animals.
